79. AeroSubaru
Went to see the antennas of ground control station of SPROUT, a nano satellite of Nihon University. Unexpectedly, an AeroSubaru was exhibited there.
Its engine is Avco Lycaming make, not by Subaru, horizontaly-opposed 4-cylinder type with 180 HP.

78. Asagao
Asagao, morning glory, at a nearby museum.
Already exceeding 4 m high.

77. Rainy season started
Seems the rainy month has started.
Today's weather chart at 1500 is filled with many low pressures.

76. Lightning suppression system
Fine weather of May made us to take our dog, Jiro, out for a walk at a nearby riverside. A large building traversing the river is Ouwada drainage station of Water Resource Agency. The station adopts a unique lightning suppression system.
Contrary to the conventional rod type system which induces lightnings into the earth, the system of this station collects earth current through special electrodes and creates an ionized layer under thunder cloud ceiling by enhancing corona discharges through numerous pointed rods as in the pictures. This layer reduces the electrical field between the thunder cloud and the station, and thereby suppresses the lightning strike itself.
The original idea is from U.S. The system is said to be very effective.

A platanus at Aoba-no-mori in Chiba.
Bell seeds of last year still hanging, even if new leaves come out.

74. Manhole
Mini manhole seen at the approach alley to Guhou Temple in Ichikawa.
And the main gate of Guhou temple, where its drooping cherry tree is nearly out of bloom.

73. Flower viewing
Went to Chidorigafuti for cherry flower viewing, this year too.
Also to Yushuukan of Yasukuni shrine.
Zero's popularity is high as always.

72. Kanpou 3rd year
A horse head avalokitesvara at a roadside of a usual walking path with Jiro.
The inscription reads Kanpou 3rd year (n-water/boar) March. This correponds to the Christian year of 1743, and the era of Yoshimune (8th Tokugawa Shogun).
A great comet appeared in this year.
In the previous Kanpou 2nd year, in July and August (lunar calender), a super large typhoon caused great floods at the rivers of Tone, Ara and Edo, and their lower reaches suffered the largest disaster throughout the Edo piriod.

71. Tsujikiri (Wayside severance)
A Tsujikiri at a nearby location became new this year too. Acc. to a farmer of this area, this is replaced with a new one, every year, on the Jan. 25th.
This type of long critter is placed at roadsides on the outskirt of a village, and intended to ward off misfortunes, epidemics, etc. that might try to come into the village.
Every year, the one served for a year at this place is placed on the ground just beneath the new one, as if it was thrown away. As it is made of dried rice stalks, it vanishes in a matter of a year. This might represent the cast-off skin. Though, at another roadside, the old one is said to be burnt out.
Encountering this one reminds me curiously that a long critter is called as kutinawa (literally means a rope with a mouth) in Konjaku Monogatari (Tales of times now past).

70. Kogera (pigmy woodpecker)
Pigmy woodpecker; can be recognized by its chirping, gi,gi,gi,---, and also by its wood pekking sounds,ko,ko,ko,---.
Its restless moves had prevented me from taking its pictutres. This time, however, it seems OK.
